A homemade fly and wasp trap

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

This is not really technical but it is useful!

Homemade fly and wasp trap

This trap could not be simpler to make and is definitely cheaper that the outdoor traps sold in the shops!  All you need is an empty squash bottle, some jam and water.  Cut the top of the bottle off, about nine centimetres down, smear some jam round the inside of the cut edge and pour in some water, then invert the cut-off top and put it into the bottle as shown on the right.

It takes a day or two to become really effective as the smell, which attracts more flies, develops as more of them are trapped.  You could use extra additives, such as small bits of meat, as the more attractive the smell is to flies the better it willwork.
